Spoon Sports Side Mirrors

Have you ever found yourself in a predicament questioning if your new aftermarket part was conducive to your build? Perhaps, you are left pondering if what you bought was beneficial and edifying to your automotive build journey.

I believe many enthusiasts out there can relate and understand what I asked. Sometimes, it’s optimal to just leave the car the way the manufacturer designed it. That’s tough to commit to though, when there are countless aftermarket companies all over the globe that will entice you into their brand. Of course, most to all of the time, the aftermarket part is to benefit the vehicle in some way and what you inquire from it. Whether it’s to get your hands on the biggest turbo or drown your bank account into the biggest “wang” (like me) for excessive downforce, we can all appreciate what the aftermarket companies have done to the automotive realm.

The intention and purpose of these parts is to inculcate drivers and push them to utilize the parts to the maximum ability they were designed for in a race track or drag strip.

It’s quite tough to picture a world without any automotive aftermarket companies! I mean, it’ll be pretty boring to see all the same looking S2000’s on the street. Or at least to a certain extent. Therefore, the aftermarket companies are here to create, innovate, and help enthusiasts like us to reach the optimal potential of our vehicles and build!

Now going back to what I was asking in the beginning; to answer that question, sometimes, mods come with sacrifice that will leave you second guessing about the alterations you want to make in or on your vehicle. Occasionally, aftermarket companies’ designs come with a price (unfortunately). So do you have what it takes when it comes down to that?

For me, personally, that’s an easy decision to fabricate. Judging and seeing what I have done to my S2000, it’s convenient to guess what you think I’ll choose.

SO! Just in case if you have been looking to get some aftermarket side mirrors for your S2000, the Spoon Sport side mirrors will be a good piece to obtain. IF, you are fine with not having anymore power to auto adjust your side views with a toggle or push of a button, the Spoon Sport side mirrors may just be your new exterior alteration to your S2000!

Just look how refreshing the mirror looks attached on the door of the vehicle. In replacement of the OEM bulky side mirror, the Spoon Sport side mirror flowed with the chassis extremely well!

At certain angles of the side mirror, it reminded me of an American football. LOL! I forgot to demonstrate and capture the ability of the mirror to fold inward (like the OEM). I’m glad Spoon kept it two pieces and still kept that option. With how long the side mirror is now, compared to the OEM, folding the mirror is purposeful because I have found myself dodging the mirror and sometimes still get caught to it and then retract it outward.

Word of advice, leave them folded inward upon working around the car. That way, you don’t have to worry about it breaking when you catch on to it.

Aside from how beautiful the side mirror looks, Spoon also provided a wide view blue tinted mirror alongside it. The color of the mirror is truly mesmerizing! I find myself staring at it from time to time when I’m parked and sitting inside my car lining up to enter into a car show. Mirror is flawless and vivid and just a very nice visual to stare at. LOL!

A few more angles of how the mirror looked like from multiple perspectives. I genuinely believe it looks extremely well and designed!

There are numerous designs out there if you opt out and decide to choose something different rather than the Spoon Sport style. I personally purchased this set aside form the other brands because it’s SPOON!!! LOL! Just kidding, my actual reason was just how I liked the design more than the other side mirrors available.

So, to address what I asked in the beginning of the blog, some mods must come with a small sacrifice of something else.

As amazing as the Spoon Sport side mirrors look, everything is entirely manual. You’ll lose your power adjustments to the side mirrors and travel back in time to your 90’s Honda and adjust everything by hand. Plus, the visual on these things are not so great. The wide view made up for visual footage, but the mirror itself is so small, it’s quite tough to perceive. Compared to the OEM side mirror, the OEM one covered a higher percentage of rear visual footage. If you are willing to hop over to the Spoon side, just know, you’ll have to definitely take this into consideration to see if it will be something you will be fine with.

For a little bit over $1,000, if this does not cut it for you, put that 1k into something else. As for me, I went with it because I just love how crisp it looked and flowed with the S2000.

Lately, I have been tossing around the idea of purchasing a Spoon Sport-Ballade style side mirror and see if I can utilize their power adjustment unit to mine and see if it’ll be power it. But, that is just a thought for a future project. For now, I can survive with this.

Well guys,

That concludes this blog. A short a simple one to express my honest thoughts about the Spoon side mirrors. Perhaps, in the future, Spoon will release a generation 2 version and add power adjustments to it, like the generation 2 for the eg, ek, and dc chassis. That’s just wishful thinking though.

Weenie Fest is approaching quickly and I cannot wait to take my camera out and do my first coverage of a car show and post it here on my site. Be forewarn, the coverage will centralize mostly on Honda builds…because I’m a Honda head. I’ll try my best to capture other builds aside from Honda’s, if I know what I am looking at.

Thank you and I’ll see you all in the next one!
